With keynote “The Emotionally Strong Leader” by Carolyn Stern and a session on “Showcalling & Live Event Stage Direction” by Troy Peters\, CTS paired with a networking happy hour. This FREE event is one not to be missed. Earn Continuing Education Credits and celebrate the convergence of creativity and technology. Register today to join us in Oceanside\, California. \nAgenda\n12:30 PM -1:00 PM Networking \n1:00 PM – 2:15 PM Live Event Stage Management Presentation with Troy J. Peters\, CTS \n2:15 PM – 2:30 PM Break \n2:30 PM – 3:30 PM The Emotionally Strong Leader Presentation with Carolyn Stern \n3:30 PM – 4:30 PM Networking and Happy Hour \nTo reserve your complimentary spot please visit: seaspro.com/leapconference \nKeynote: The Emotionally Strong Leader with Carolyn Stern \nAddressing the feelings of others in the workplace can be a terrifying proposition. For many leaders\, asking what lies behind the actions and reactions of their people is akin to opening Pandora’s box. They don’t want to find out what’s lurking inside. Many managers don’t know how to deal with- and they fear- their employees’ emotions. \nLeaders of these organizations have good reason to be scared. After all\, few of us know how to handle emotions (let alone handle them at work). Many of us have not learned how to tend to our feelings and those of others. So isn’t it better to sweep all those pesky emotions under the rug and carry on as if they don’t exist? The answer is an unequivocal no! \nInstead of spending time and money on dealing with the inappropriate behaviors and disrespectful communications stemming from emotional issues in your workplace\, you can get to the heart of those issues and deal with your feelings and the feelings of your people head-on. \nIn this session\, you will learn the emotional skills and mental strategies needed to be stronger and more intelligent than your feelings and help others learn to explore their emotions. Emotions should not be feared but celebrated. A wealth of amazing possibilities are available if we learn to harness the superpower of our emotions. \nLearning Objectives \n\nDiscover the systemic problems with ignoring emotions in the workplace.\nLearn why emotions matter and reduce the fear of tending to them at work.\nIdentify the emotional skills and mental strategies to be stronger than your feelings.\nGain a deeper awareness of your emotional makeup and how that helps and hurts your leadership effectiveness.\n\nCMP/CMM Renewal Units: 1.00 \n  \nShowcalling & Live Event Stage Direction with Troy J. Peters\, CTS\nWhether in-person\, virtual\, or hybrid\, the show caller or stage manager is responsible for directing an audio-visual multimedia experience that can have dozens or even hundreds of moving parts. From managing the onstage talent to the technical know-how\, you’ll learn how to engage in the best possible way with your onsite AV Team from the engineers\, show producers\, stage managers\, and even the audience\, to design and execute the perfect experiential live event. \nThis session will use real and relevant examples from recent events including presidential inaugurations\, major televised sporting events\, as well as more intimate\, but highly produced audience experiences. By working together\, we will talk through how to build a show flow\, anticipate challenges\, manage timelines\, and learn how to bring together your team behind the scenes. This is the perfect session for a seasoned event manager or team lead looking to better understand or even take on some stage management responsibilities\, or someone interested in production and looking for a path to design and direct their own events. \nLearning Objectives  \n\nUpon completion\, attendees will define the THREE types of equipment and operation going into any production. Source management\, processing\, and output. \nAs meeting planners and production leads\, we need to keep focused on TWO things… communication and timing. Through demonstration and group discussion we’ll build a show flow and line up all the deliverables.\nThe ONE mission critical piece of the live project is having active redundancies in place and ready to go. Hot backups and rehearsed “what-ifs” mean you’ll be set up for success\, even when challenges arise.\n\nCMP/CMM Renewal Units: 1.25 \nSponsored by:\nSEAS Productions\nPCMA Southwest and Pacific Chapter\nILEA San Diego\nOceanside Chamber of Commerce

SUMMARY:MPI/HSMAI/PCMA Education Program & Mixer
DESCRIPTION:“THE FUTURE OF WORK IS FLOW” \nPresented by Jeska Brodbeck\, CEO\, Be Light Consulting \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are “kicking off the new year” and inviting our members to “get into the zone” by joining us at our January 26th football themed meeting and mixer. We encourage you to wear your favorite football team jersey or team colors. \nThree leading hospitality/meeting industry associations – Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Arizona Sunbelt Chapter\, the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Arizona Chapter\, and the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Southwest and Pacific Chapter\, are “teaming up” for this special program. \nWelcome to the Future of Work— a new reality where anyone can reach their highest level of performance without the negative stress by learning how to enter and sustain Flow State. \nThere are over 40 years of verifiable scientific research on it; Olympic athletes hire coaches to teach them how to access it. The Navy Seals also pay the big bucks to learn how to stay in it— yet Corporate America is not even talking about it. Instead\, mainstream work culture asserts the myth that if we work harder and faster\, we can get it all done. The reality is that the work never ends\, and chronic stress destroys the very productivity we need to be successful. \nThe typical anti-stress tips and tricks are just a band aid over the real issue: negative stress blocks our creative genius\, our ability to solve complex problems\, and our enjoyment of the work that we do. \nWe’re standing at the edge of one of the greatest paradigm shifts of our time. Join Jeska to learn more about how you\, too\, can radically transform your relationship with stress and truly create a life of meaning and purpose through Flow State at this one-of-a-kind keynote. \nBy accessing and mastering your own Flow State\, you will have the opportunity to: \n\nRewire your experience of stress to quintuple effectiveness\nSignificantly increase cognitive ability to focus and stay on task\nAchieve optimal performance and work in your creative genius naturally and without extra effort\n\nJoin your fellow MPI\, HSMAI and PCMA members and guests for this can’t-miss program! \nFOR LIST OF OUR GENEROUS SPONSORS\, CLICK HERE. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEarly Bird Fees (by 1/20/23): \n$40 for Members / $50 for Non-Members \nValet Parking Available at $13.00

SUMMARY:Student Insight Series
DESCRIPTION:The PCMA Student Insight Series aims to expose students to different aspects of the Business Events Industry and perspectives of working professionals at all career levels. \nThis month’s topic: “Negotiating the best contract and how to maintain lasting relationships.” \nThis session will be hands-on\, including a breakout portion. Come ready with your questions! \nPanel: \nMoira O’Brien has been with McCormick Place Convention Center\, currently managed by ASM Global\, since 2009. As the Director of Sales for McCormick Place since 2015\, Moira and her team secure events at the largest convention center in North America ranging from major city-wide conventions and trade shows\, Association and Corporate meetings\, public and consumer shows to smaller catering functions. Having worked as a National Sales Manager then Senior Sales Manager with McCormick Place Moira has managed all types of accounts and industry segments. \nPrior to McCormick Place\, Moira worked as an Executive Recruiter in the hospitality industry focusing on Leadership placements in both the hotel and restaurant communities. This was preceded by ten years working with a hospitality trade association managing membership\, sponsorship and trade show logistics plus five years in the hotel industry directly out of college where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management\, all which prepared her well for her current role building relationships with customers\, the convention bureau and all our hospitality partners to host successful events at McCormick Place. \nIn 2020-21\, the COVID-19 pandemic deeply impacted the global meetings and events industry. Moira is passionately committed to the continued recovery efforts at McCormick Place. McCormick Place was one of the first facilities to commit to the GBAC STAR™ Accreditation\, an independent review of our cleaning and business operations to reduce the spread of infectious diseases. Since being able to host large scale events again as of July of 2021\, we are thrilled many of our event organizers have been able to meet safely and successfully achieve their event’s missions. \nMoira lives in Chicago and is constantly exploring new restaurants in Chicago’s thriving culinary scene. She is a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan\, always hoping for late October baseball. Moira tries to relax with yoga and travel\, and still has many places to experience to her bucket list. \n \n\nMatt Radenbaugh has been working in hotel sales for 20 years\, first with the Drake Hotel and now with the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park. Previous to that\, he was in the front office and convention services\, so he prides himself on knowing the ins and outs of hotel operations in order set realistic expectations for his clients and setting them up for a successful conference experience. He believes a group contract should be a “win-win” agreement\, in which both sides feel risks are shared and terms are fair. In his free time\, Matt enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing his passion of fishing all over the Chicagoland area. \n  \n \nMurray Ryan has served in the meetings and events industry for over 30 years.  Prior to joining the Encore family Murray worked in a variety of sales and marketing roles for leading industry firms including Hyatt\, Hilton\, Tourism Toronto\, and PRG.  Murray is a proud member of the Greater Midwest Chapter of PCMA\, having served on the Board of Directors in various years\, most recently serving as chapter President in 2018. \n  \n  \n \nJen Salerno is a 20-year veteran of the hospitality & events industry. Throughout her career\, Jen has worked with and consulted for many of the biggest trade shows in the country and specializes in strengthening the relationship between event planners and the hospitality community. \nToday\, she is owner of JTS Connect\, which provides live\, virtual and hybrid event host/emcee and moderating services. She is also host of The Room Block\, the podcast where hospitality and event professionals meet. Jen is passionate about solidifying the connections across our industry\, and is ready to connect your team or audience with ideas that inspire action. \n  \nLindsay Woike attended College at Eastern Illinois University and majored in Business Management with a minor in Hospitality. Had to complete an internship with my minor and headed to Hilton Head South Carolina to Vagabond Cruise where myself and a team of interns ran the operations for the sightseeing and excursion cruise operator. After graduation I started a job at Hyatt Regency Deerfield as the Assistant Outlets Manager. About 7 months into my position\, Hyatt sold the hotel and promoted me to Assistant Banquet Manager at the Hyatt Regency Louisville where they moved me to. From there I found my love for meetings and events. After 3 years with Hyatt\, I moved back to Chicago and started work with the American College of Healthcare Executives as their Meeting Planner. After a few years with ACHE I was promoted to Senior Meeting Planner and was with ACHE a total of 7 years. While I loved working with associations\, it was time to grow my career and learn about being a manger. I found my next job with CNO Financial as the Manager of Operations for Training and Development. During this time COVID came and my job changed quite a bit and we all had to pivot with the times. After 3 years with CNO Financial I moved to my current job which is Manager\, Meetings and Event Experiences with Institute of Food Technologists this past December. I am now planning\, with my amazing team\, to put on a show for 18\,000 people in person and 2\,000 virtually with my team at Institute of Food Technologists.
